Mini belongs to BMW and uses the same immobiliser families: EWS on the R50 and R52 cars, CAS3 on the R55 and R56, BDC on the F54 and F56, with the HU92R blade throughout the older range and ID49 proximity keys on the recent ones.
Programming happens over OBD with brand-specific equipment. On many models we can add a key without the original, and where every key is gone we erase the old set and code a new one.

On the older cars that is a worn barrel more often than a worn key. We check both, because replacing the key alone would not fix it.
